人們常說：“做人難，做女人更難”，行年五十的康天任（劉鬆仁飾）聽在耳裏隻覺男人其實也很苦。天任妻子早逝後，他頓成單親爸爸。雖然其後再婚，有第二任妻子黃德蕎（蘇玉華飾）照顧兒子，但他這個一家之主卻要同時照顧兩個家――自己的家和德蕎的外家，辛苦程度不足為外人道。及至兒子世熙（吳卓羲飾）長大成人，他那不願認真工作，隻顧吃喝玩樂的性格，以及與大學生高芬（梁靖琪飾）奉子成婚一事，更令天任看著頭痛。家庭擔子重，工作同樣叫人喘不過氣，筋疲力盡的天任竟不能履行丈夫職責，而妻子卻被蒙在鼓裏…
