【劇情介紹】：
賭徒賀義　為愛戒賭
義乃當押店東主賀年的獨生子，受到過度溺愛，為典型二世祖，不務正業，終日流連鴻福賭坊，更試過因不眠不休地賭博而疲勞過度，暈倒街頭。幸被美麗善良的杜麗瑩所救，義更對瑩大生好感，展開追求。
義得知瑩在慈幼局工作，遂請纓角逐慈幼局總理一職，希望博得佳人一笑，但卻遇上“青梅竹馬”的宿敵曾德勝，勝乃鴻福賭坊少東，因覬覦慈幼局的土地，想得來改建為賭場，就跟義競爭，義決以賭局來跟勝作一了斷，結果義大勝，奪得總理一位，義以為瑩會為此傾情，豈料瑩因父親杜濟森因賭博而把家財散盡，母親鬱鬱而終，因而對賭極其厭惡，所以對義不存好感。但義卻是遇強越強，加上喜好追求勝利的感覺，對瑩追求之意不減反增。
義遇上瑩父杜濟森，森多年來仍未戒賭，竟和義一拍即合，義更提供賭本供森賭博，此事被瑩得悉，瑩勃然大怒，加上瑩見勝開設字花，引發出不少家庭問題，瑩遂發起一連串派傳單、演街頭劇的反賭邉櫻??h官尚吉祥就借此機禁賭，目的是向勝等人搾取金錢。而瑩更得知義、森於義家開賭，大義滅親，向縣衙舉報，把義一家拘禁，義為之氣結。結果義為了可以繼續賭博，想出“防務經費”一詞，巧立名目，令賭坊重開，瑩為此跟義大吵一場，二人不歡而散。義更為了跟瑩嘔氣，以賭發洩，賭足三日三夜，結果不小心滑倒，自賭坊二樓跌下，撞傷頭顱，昏迷不醒。
義昏迷不醒，屢醫無效，賀家唯有求神問卜，想以沖喜令義甦醒，年想撮合來自上海的表姨甥江瑪莉和義成婚，但莉見義昏迷不醒，不願守生寡。年但找遍全佛山，唯有瑩的年生八字和義相配，但瑩堅拒。時森沒有了義這顆幸噝牽?曩€必輸，勝就借此機引誘森欠下巨債，逼森走上絕路，目的是為了對瑩曾作出反賭一事報復。眼見森快要被人賣豬仔遠赴金山，瑩雖對森再沉迷賭博而不快，但在親情之下，瑩決定放棄到香港學醫的機會，下嫁昏迷中的義，得到钜額禮金，為森還債，不過瑩也和賀家約法三章，若義命喪則守孝三年，若甦醒則寫回一紙休書，瑩便可回復自由。
瑩因此悉心照顧義，希望義能盡快醒來，但義卻從無反應。一次意外，義被雷電擊中，竟然清醒過來，義發現瑩對自己的細心照顧，對瑩的愛意有增無減，但因不想瑩離開，隻有假裝尚未痊癒，又立誌戒賭，奇招百出，但未如理想，但後來義發現瑩有遠大的理想，不忍瑩為了自己而放棄，決寫休書讓瑩離去，但義的大方行為反令瑩猶疑。同時勝竟把慈幼局的業主遊說成功，把慈幼局出讓，瑩大為擔心，義為了助瑩，再次以賭解決，終贏了一筆钜款，把慈幼局的土地買下，化解了危機。瑩得知義為自己所做一切，一方麵為義對自己的情意感動，卻又因義再次賭博而不快，瑩麵對著前程和感情，甚為矛盾，而瑩最後都決定以將來幸福作賭注，留下跟義當真夫妻，但條件是要義戒賭。
初期義沉醉於和瑩的戀愛中，真的把賭博拋諸腦後。而瑩卻因為和芳、年新舊思想不同，時有磨擦，令義心煩，加上瑩又專注和曾德健合力加強慈幼局的服務，朝夕相對，惹來閒言閒語，義想瑩放棄慈幼局的工作，瑩拒絕，令夫妻感情產生衝突。而瑩眼見喜和壽互相愛慕，但礙於身份不能結合，同時年想把因受驚嚇而影響智力的喜下嫁給一年長商人，喜和壽大急。瑩不忍小情侶被拆散，而金寶醫生為喜治病亦有進展，著喜繼續扮傻，並化身為女飛伲瑢⒛杲饚齏蜷_，四出派錢，令全佛山都知道喜神智有問題，無人願娶，年肉痛之餘唯有把喜嫁給壽。到了大婚之後，年才知喜己回復正常，一切都是瑩的擺計，年怒不可竭，逼義休妻，義心煩。
故態復萌　老婆心淡
義夫妻關係日漸緊張，而一向覬覦賀家家財的表妹瑪莉，因誤會瑩揭發是空心老倌，是外強中乾的假小姐，莉一直對瑩懷恨，就借此時機從中挑撥，投義所好，瞞著瑩令義再次賭博。
時勝又藉著卜榜花（闈姓賭博），大撈油水，令賭風又再熾熱，義也感不妥，欲設計阻止時，反被瑩發現義仍有賭博，並誤會連他人前程也用來開賭局，大為不恥，對義大感失望，咀咒義有如應咒，夫妻關係陷入低潮。義也因而寄情賭博，可惜邭庖堰h離了義，義逢賭必輸，但越輸就越賭，結果義竟把所有家財輸光，以為瑩定會捨己而去，但瑩反鼓勵義，隻要義決心戒賭，定不離不棄，義遂決心戒賭，重新做人。
而莉見賀家家財盡散，再無利用價值，即捨賀家而去，轉投財大氣粗，粗魯無知的勝的懷抱，莉雖不喜勝毫無學識，但二人都是奸詐之徒，竟臭味相投，感情在不知不覺中滋生。
義發奮工作，踏實做人，本是生活安好，但當得悉祖屋將被勝改建為妓院，義大為焦急。勝就利用莉，引誘義作投機買賣，義以為有利可圖，如能成功定可把祖屋贖回，奈何義資金不足，唯有把產業盡當，而勝就為報多年來被義欺負之仇，要羞辱義一番，提出把瑩當出，定以高價為押，讓義有足夠資金投資。義怒言拒絕，可惜義試圖另找方法借錢，但昔日好友都因義當日為賭而借錢留下陰影，拒絕相助，義走投無路之下，唯有瞞著瑩將之當給勝。
爛賭成性　押上老婆
義隻把瑩當押作為週轉之用，以為可以瞞天過海，豈料買賣失敗，義連贖回瑩的錢也沒有。勝得知一切，更落井下石，來向義要人，瑩晴天霹靂，得知被當。義當不忍瑩被帶走，要鬧上公堂，但勝和祥勾結，指義應把瑩交出，義不肯，祥就把義一家收押坐錢債監，瑩不忍一家老幼受牢獄之苦，決跟勝離去，義悲憤自責。
瑩被帶到勝家，與外隔絕，而勝又貪戀瑩的美色，意圖不軌，令瑩陷於險境，幸健出麵，表示對瑩早有傾心之意，請勝把瑩讓給自己，健就和瑩展開了一段晨妻暮嫂的關係，對瑩以禮相待，保護著瑩。
義當老婆一事傳遍佛山，遭眾人恥笑，指義是“爛賭義”，為了賭連老婆也當掉。義知恥近乎勇，也為了盡快贖回瑩，拚了命賺錢，家人也被義的決心感動，跟義一起努力，四出賺錢。可惜不論賀家上下如何努力，也無法籌足贖銀把瑩贖回，義又眼見瑩和健感情似是一日千裏，焦急不安，一念之差，竟把眾人努力賺回的錢拿去賭博，而義為了必勝，竟然在賭坊出千，被勝發現，把義毒打一頓。
瑩知義又再賭博，對義完全死心，決定離開義，和健到香港，完成讀醫心願，義意圖勸止，但瑩淒然說出下嫁義是以自己的幸福作賭注，如今她和義都輸了！義明白真的把瑩傷透，再無顏麵把瑩挽留，黯然看著瑩和健離去。義因瑩的離去，徹底地痛改前非踏實做人。與此同時，朝廷下令打擊賭博，凡開賭者皆要下獄，勝因開設賭坊而被捕，知自已是絕路，把所有家財送給莉，讓莉遠走高飛。
