Fight back to the biased news report on 4.27 Pro-China rally

I was very upset after I read the biased article "Violence disrupts pro-China rally" on New Zealand Herald (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/1/story.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10506597). Most of the quotations were from the pro-Tibet people. Such as "There was a lot of intimidation going on. A lot of people didn't like it - a lot of Kiwis didn't like it." "I was standing up with the Tibetan flag when they all came rushing. They ripped off our flags and I took a few punches to the head."

I wrote the following article to tell New Zealand people my true experience. The 2008 Beijing Olympic rally was hold at Aotea Square on Sunday April 27. Despite the rain, thousands of people were gathering to celebrate the 2008 Beijing Olympic. I was so proud to be with those amazing people. The celebration and excitement was multiplied when I joined the thousands people to wave our flags and singed our hearts out. It was absolutely thrilled. I haven't seen such emotional scene in New Zealand for quite a long time. It was great. I was so excited and not a bit exhausted although I stayed all night to design and make my flags, T-Shirt and scarf for this Olympic rally.

Most of the cars on the Queen Street were covered by red flags after the rally. I hung my flag on my car as well. The people had the big smiles, waved their hands, gave me a thumbs-up, ran to take photos of my flag. One European gentleman smiled and showed me his Beijing guide book to me. Some Kiwis carried Chinese flag walked along Queen Street. I was so touched by the support and friendship given by so many positive Kiwis.

The students were amazing! Few Massey University students were running along the Queen Street in the rain to ask rally people politely not to beep the horn. Otherwise the noise made by so many excited people could be heard from every corner of Auckland city.

I ran into some my old friends who I haven't seen for years. What an amazing day! The Olympic brought us together. High fives, fist pumps and hugs... It was amazing!!!!!

The rally closed successfully. The pro-Olympic rally people tried to do the right things even the emotion was high. None of the pro-Olympic rally people were arrested. The Aotea square were so clean after rally people left.

It was a great to be able to experience this. I was interviewed by the TV One and a Radio station. I told the reports that:

"The Olympic Game has a history of more than one thousand years. She belongs to all the nations. The spirit of Olympic is to promote understanding and friendship among different peoples and different nations. I am here to celebrate the Olympics for what the games are mean to be - a bridge for peace and friendship, not a playground for politicians and terrorists. The 2008 Beijing Olympic Game will be the greatest Olympic Games in the history."

I would like to thank all the friends (Kiwis, Chinese, Korea, European…) for sharing this wonderful celebration with us and cheering for the Olympic whether you were in Auckland city center or at home. I could feel you through the silence! I can't wait for the 2008 Beijing Olympic game!
