With only two weeks remaining to the Christmas, it’s an ideal time for some themed music release: Christmas Greatest Hits released under Universal’s label offers classic Xmas songs as well as some not so well-known singles. This is a really fine compilation which should get you easily in the correct mood.
The offering: ‘This the hype-heavy season when new releases make over-inflated claims. Christmas’ Greatest Hits certainly offers traditional sonic treats but in keeping with the season, adds a turkey and plenty of stuffing. Someone must have been into the egg nog when they included Wham!’s 1984 George Michael lament Last Christmas. Classic chestnuts: The Bingster’s White Christmas, Burl Ives doing A Holly Jolly Christmas, Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas and John and Yoko’s Happy Xmas (War Is Over).
