在去年發行了一張現場專輯之後，John Mayer終於交出了他個人三年來的首張錄音室專輯《Continuum》。在發行首周，《Continuum》以30萬張的單周銷量獲得了本周Billboard 200專輯榜的亞軍。Mayer的上張錄音室專輯是2003年的《Heavier Things》，曾獲得當年Billboard 200專輯榜冠軍，發行首周的銷量達到31萬7千張。

在2003年的專輯《Heavier Things》之後，他不斷的在一些Blues，Jazz大師級音樂人的專輯中出現，這其中包括布魯斯吉他大師巴迪·蓋（Buddy Guy），B.B. King和爵士融合鋼琴大師赫爾比·漢考克（Herbie Hancock）。當然John Mayer在這些傳奇音樂人的專輯中不隻是僅僅助陣演唱那麽簡單，他還親自演奏了吉他，與這些前輩音樂家切磋技藝，這對於John Mayer這一代的音樂人是十分難得的。 


    從一出道，才華橫溢的John Mayer就被很多行家看好。但直到這張《Continuum》的麵世，我們才真正感受到這位音樂才子的成熟。總的來說，《Continuum》是一張吉他出色，充滿靈性而又非常悅耳的專輯。而無論是這張專輯的曲風，還是John Mayer的唱腔都能體現出他受Blues，Jazz和老式R&B音樂的影響都是非常重的。開場曲《Waiting On The World To Change》，民謠曲風的《The Heart Of Life》，慢版流行布魯斯小調《Slow Dancing In A Burning Room》都是十分動聽的曲目。其中，《Slow Dancing In A Burning Room》中的吉他演奏簡直與這首歌曲的名字一樣煽情。通過鋼琴伴奏的《Dreaming With A Broken Heart》以及略帶Jazz曲風的結束曲《I'm Gonna Find Another You》，很多以前不是John Mayer歌迷的聽眾或許都會被他所打動。此外，《Bold As Love》是John Mayer翻彈吉他巫師吉米·亨德裏克斯（Jimi Hendrix）的名曲。雖然Mayer的版本在很多人心目中遠不能同原版相比，但年輕一代的音樂人敢於嚐試這種類型的曲子本身就是值得鼓勵的，何況，John Mayer的演繹本身也是相當棒的。
