Just attended the first Behavior Management Workshop by Autism Spectrum Therapies. Very informative workshop! There were 5 other parents with autistic children. We each described our children and our relationships with them. One mom is from Brazil. One mom is married to a Brazilian. One black mom, and two black dad. I was surprised to see how much good common sense the black mom and one of the black dad had as to work with autistic children. Especially Joseph. He looks like a bum, and he talks as if he isn't much educated, but he has very gentle and attentive way to understand and connect with his autistic daughter. From his talking, I've learned a lot. I must pay more and special attention to Yangyang, and try harder to understand him.
Our homework this week is to identify an undesired behavior and collect data about it. I think we will work on eating problem... or maybe dressing?
Yangyang has made so much progress lately that I'm very confident that he will soon be able to adjust to our "normal" society.
Even today at the park, Sheila commented on how social Yangyang is. When she came to the park with her kids, Yangyang came up and greeted them, "hello, Brandon!"
Yangyang is such a special kid. (Today we saw an antique car while driving. He immediately commented on how small the windows were. "The dog will look out of the small window", he said. So very perceptive.)
