讓我慢下來

讓我慢下來,

讓我用頭腦的平靜撫平狂跳的心。

在一天的迷茫中,請賜給我山丘般永恒的寧靜。

用我記憶中歡唱小溪的美妙音樂,驅走神經和肌肉的緊張。

交給我體會休閑的藝術——慢慢靜下來看一朵小花,與朋友聊天,拍一拍狗,對一個孩子微笑,從一本好書中選出幾行,認真品位。

每天提醒我,比賽並不是最快的人贏;生活中有比增加速度更多的內容。

讓我每天仰視那高塔般的橡樹,明白她生生長得又高又壯,是因為它緩慢而健康地成長。

Slow me down
Ease the pounding of my heart
By the quieting of my mind.
Steady my harried pace
With a vision of the eternal reach of time.

Give me,
Amidst the confusions of my day,
The calmness of the everlasting hills.
Break the tensions of my nerves
With the soothing music
Of the singing streams
That live in my memory.

Help me to know
The magical power of sleep,
Teach me the art
Of taking minute vacations
Of slowing down
To look at a flower;
To chat with an old friend
To pat a stray dog;
To smile at a child;
Or to read a few lines from a good book.

Remind me each day
That the race is not always to the swift;
That there is more to life
Than increasing its speed.

Let me look upward
Into the branches of the towering oak
And know that it grew great and strong
Because it grew slowly and well.

得感謝你博客裏的美圖,我才有興趣把皮德森撰寫的美文[讓我慢下來]做成帖子的,昨天晚上還在網上找到了這首英詩,就一並收進帖子裏了。這張在hammock上休閑的女子,觀望著的湛藍的大海,白色的帆船,和這篇文章要表達的意境很吻合,再謝你的分享。

Wilferd Arlan Peterson (August 21, 1900 - June 2, 1995) was an American author who wrote for This Week magazine (a national Sunday supplement in newspapers) for many years. For twenty-five years, he wrote a monthly column for Science of Mind magazine. He published nine books starting in 1949 with The art of getting along: Inspiration for triumphant daily living."
