A tall evergreen tree outside the window

branches intertwined

young and old

He is no longer eating and drinking

doctors say hearing is the last sense to go

so I talked and talked, in his ear

Family members flew in

funeral plans chosen

his favorite shirt to put on ironed

Dear God, why am I still not ready

to let go of his hands, holding mine tightly right now

and for half a century?

Would the evergreen branches

ever meet again, in the same tree, after

dust to dust, ashes to ashes?

《準備好了》

窗外立著一棵高大的常青樹

新舊枝叉交織纏繞在一起

他已經不能飲水進食了

醫生說聽力是最後消失的感知

所以我在他的耳邊不停地說著話

家庭成員都從外州飛來了

殯葬計劃已經選好

他最喜歡穿的襯衫也熨燙好了

親愛的上帝，為什麽我還是沒有準備好

鬆開他的手？這雙手現在正緊緊抓住我的

半個世紀以來, 一直如此

當生命輪回，塵埃落定

那些常青樹枝還會在同一棵樹上

再次相遇嗎？
