Boyfriend Talk

(2008-11-03 20:15:55) 下一個

Ever since Olivia had a new Chinese teacher who would explain what they are leaning in English, she started to go the class with Daddy on Sundays so that both of them can learn.

Today at the dinner table, I asked Olivia what she learned from the Chinese school yesterday. She told me the story and in the end didn't forget to complain: "When can I stop going to Chinese classes? Maybe I will find a boyfriend in middle school. Then I will be very busy and won't have time to go to Chinese school during weekend."

"Ungh-uh, no boyfriend. Olivia, you just remember what Daddy told you today. Boys are no good." Daddy made his point.

"(Boys are no good) in middle school." I tried not to generalize Daddy's statement to imply that Daddy is not one of those no good ones.

But Daddy didn't appreciate my effort, "No, boys are no good in general."

"I wouldn't say that." I didn't want to install that idea in Olivia's mind.

Olivia continued with the boyfriend topic and said:" Isn't that cool if I can find an actor or singer to be my boyfriend?" Well, I was not surprised at all since her dream was to be on TV.

" Ungh-uh, those are exactly the kinds you should avoid." Daddy told Olivia.

I  couldn't help but laugh to myself.

"But why?" Olivia didn't understand.

"Because if he is an actor, when he talks to you, you wouldn't know whether he is acting or he is telling you the truth, would you?" Daddy explained.

"Yeah, you are right. Okay, I have changed my mind." Olivia was easily convinced.

"You'd better forget about the boys.  Like I said, they are not good for you." Daddy made the final call.
