Daddy\'s Birthday \'Surprise\'

Last Wednesday was Daddy’s birthday. I got Evan from the daycare and we went to the grocery store to pick up the birthday cake and birthday cards for Daddy before we headed home.

Since I know Evan is not very good at keeping secrets, so I especially told him that the cake was a surprise for Daddy. We need to hide the cake after we get home, sign the birthday card and he can bring the cake out to surprise Daddy after dinner.  Evan promised me: “Okay, mom. I will not show Daddy the cake until after dinner since it’s a surprise for him”.   

After we got home (Daddy and Olivia were still at the Karate practice), we hid the cake behind the sofa in the playroom. I signed my card and had him signed the one from kids (which involved him crying as I didn’t let him sign for Olivia which he wanted to) and then started cooking.

After a little while, Daddy and Olivia came back. Everyone said Hi to each other. Even though I had my fingers crossed but NOT to my surprise, Evan said to Daddy: “Daddy, we bought a cake for you! But you are not supposed to see it until after dinner cause it's a surprise for you.”

Later after dinner, I secretly pulled Olivia over to the playroom to have her sign the birthday card. Evan saw it and he ran back to the kitchen where Daddy were still eating and said to him: “Daddy, don’t look at the playroom, okay? Don’t look at the playroom Daddy!”

This is just like him playing hide and seek with Olivia. You never have to worry about not being able to find him as not only he tends to hide in only a couple of places that everyone knows, he also giggles from excitement while he is hiding. And worst of all, when Olivia counts to 6, 7, 8 and he still hasn’t found a place to hide yet, he will run into our room, jump on our bed and scream at me: “Mommy, hurry up, hide me under the blanket!” J
