杯子 -- 三張照片和它們的故事

Holiday season is also house cleaning time. Did a bit of rearrangement in kitchen cabinets yesterday and ran into these mugs, each with its own story, only if they could talk.

 

The 1st picture are gifts from families: The middle one was from Beijing and given by my father, made in 2011 for University publisher's 10 year anniversary, good for keeping hot tea with the cover. Two with beautiful portrait drawings done by nephew David, were carried by sister Liz all the way from NS in 2009. The broken handle was courtesy of AirCanada baggage handler, but makes the mug unique.

 

The 2nd picture is an odd collection: The black one is a limited edition bought from the world's first Starbucks in Seattle, we got it for its shape and I use it everyday for coffee. The orange one with the image of Westminster Abbey was bought in London UK when we were there in 2002, good memory. Big mountain mug was brought in by my son and a souvenir from his 2013 2 day/night climbing trip to the peak of Mt Whitney (14500 ft elevation, highest in CA Sierra Nevada mountain range). The small white one was a "thank you for donation" mug from TVOntario some 18 years ago, there were a pair of them, but only one survived the time.

The 3rd picture is of past work related to all 3 of us. The white ones were from training classes back in good Nortel time, the mugs are still here, but the company and its products are legacy now, as many others in the high tech industry. I got lots of Cisco mugs from my 10 years venture there, but the most Cisco handouts then were colorful t-shirts, with one for each milestone and every occasion, so much so that some kids assumed Cisco was a company specialized in producing cool t-shirts. LOL.

節日假期也是打掃房子時間。 昨天重新安排了廚房櫥櫃，看到了這些杯子，覺得如果它們會說話的話, 每個杯子都會有一肚子的故事。

第一張照片裏的杯子是親戚們送的禮物：中間的來自北京，是老爸給的。杯子是2011年為大學出版社十周年製作，有蓋子很適合裝熱茶。 旁邊那兩個杯子上的精美肖像畫是先生的外甥畫的，2009年由先生的姐姐不遠萬裏從（加拿大）東部帶過來。破損的杯把兒是加航行李搬運工的“恩賜”，讓這個杯子變得更獨特嗬。

第二張圖裏是個不尋常的組合：黑色杯子是從西雅圖世界第一家星巴克買的限量版，因為喜歡它的形狀，我每天都用它喝咖啡。 那個帶著西敏寺教堂圖案的橙色杯子是2002年我們去英國倫敦時買的，美好的回憶。 有大山圖案的杯子是兒子拿回來的，是他 2013年2天/夜攀登惠特尼山峰（海拔14500英尺，加州內華達山脈最高點）的紀念品。 那個白色的小杯子是18年前安省電視台的“捐贈感謝”杯，當時有一對，隻有一個幸存了下來。

第三張照片和我家三個人過去的工作有關：兩個白杯子是在北電上班培訓時發的，杯子們還在，但北電，像高科技許多消失了的公司一樣，已經成為傳說。我在思科也工作過10 年，得過不少公司杯子。不過當時思科給員工發放最多的是各種 T 恤，每個“裏程碑”和各個場合都會有一件，多到讓員工的孩子們以為思科是一家專產酷炫 T 恤的公司，哈哈哈。

杯子啊杯子，多希望你們會說話啊 。。。

讚，真是“each with its own story, only if they could talk.” 西島收集的都是好東西，非常有意義。家裏也是好多的杯子，冰箱貼現在也不敢貼了，有次給冰箱上了色。現在出去都不太敢買紀念品了，放不下。：）
