  • steal sb's thunder  - 搶風頭;

來源於18世紀一個古老的故事。有位叫John Dennis的劇作家,為他的新劇發明了一種可以模仿雷聲的機器。可這個劇在當時並不是很受歡迎,就被停演,劇院換成了上演 莎士比亞的《麥克白》。但丹尼斯發現自己發明的雷聲在這部戲劇裏出現了,於是他生氣地抱怨:“They will not let my play run … but they steal my thunder!”

Harry was delighted when he passed his driving test, but his brother stole his thunder by getting engaged on the same day. 通過駕駛考試時感到很高興,但他的兄弟在同一天訂婚,搶了他的風頭。

 

  • steal sb's thunder  - 搶頭功, (含貶義)

My partner stole my thunder when he told the professor that he did all the work on the presentation.

 

  • take credit (for other’s work) - 搶走被人的功勞

It is so annoying when someone steals your thunder and takes credit for the work you've done.

Stand up for yourself if you feel your coworker is stealing your thunder because it is important that you get credit for the work you've done.

  • steal the spotlight/ limelight - 搶鏡頭; 出風頭,the limelight/spotlight = public attention and interest; 公眾關注

The experimental car certainly stole the limelight at the motor show. 這款實驗車型無疑在車展上出盡了風頭。

 

  • steal the show/scene - 最受歡迎;最為出彩, (褒義)

The opening band totally stole the show tonight—they were amazing. 開幕樂隊今晚演出最受歡迎 - 他們很棒。
