金融街的真正大師

今天老頭來介紹一位金融界的真正大師。看過《華爾街之狼》的電影的人，應該能夠看到電影裏有一位隻會編程序的華裔麵孔，就是映射那位金融界的大神，不過電影裏有關他的作用，根本沒有交代清楚。其實，他的影響比那位銷售員可是高N個階層還有多餘。這位大神的名字我就不說了，因為是老頭認識的熟人，不能太暴露。如果大家用心點，就可以狗出來。

這位大神南開畢業後去了加拿大的滑鐵盧大學拿到博士，然後來美國，從JP Morgan開始，經曆了N多公司。他的最為主要的貢獻就是利用Gaussian Copula，在考慮風險相關的基礎上給出了CDO的定價。他的方法有多牛，可能大家不知道。不過，你隻要知道從2000年他提出方法開始，到2008年的金融危機，所有的CDO的定價都是利用他的簡單而又漂亮的方法，其影響範圍遠超N萬億美元。

曆史上還沒有一個經濟學家的理論能夠達到這麽深遠的影響，如果2008年的金融危機晚來幾年，他基本肯定可以拿到炸藥獎，因為在2006年前後，已有人提議他成為炸藥獎的候選人。不過成也蕭何敗蕭何，當你的方法被所有人都用的時候，這個可能就是超出了你的方法的邊界條件。有關他的方法的使用邊界條件的討論超出了老頭想寫的內容，不過大家記住一點，那就是在金融市場，如果每個人都用同樣的方法，那麽總有一天會出大事情的。2月初的short vix的爆炸也是一個道理。

老頭介紹這位大神的用意是想說明，股市沒有永遠的贏家，也沒有永遠適用的係統和模型，需要的是大家對市場敬畏的態度，和隨著市場變化而改變自己方法的決心。

這個世上本來沒有大師，隻有當所有大師都失敗之後，你啥也不幹，也就自然成了大師。股市如此，科研如此，婚姻如此，人生也是如此，大家比的是耐力和恒心，比的是誰的持時最長。

Of course, very few people on Wall Street truly understand what the method actually does and its limitation. Most people are either not smart and skilled enough or just lazy to truly analyze any mathematical method and understand it. Most just run on herd instinct.

"他基本肯定可以拿到炸藥獎" is arguable. The name of the initiator of the application of the method is David X. Li, 李祥林. The Gaussian copula is indeed an ingenious simple elegant method to transform the problem of finding a distribution given the marginal distributions into the familiar problem of constructing a Gaussian distribution. However, it is only one class of copulas and describes only that class of dependency amongst random variables. Its adoption largely comes from its ease of use and wishful thinking than solid empirical support that the method does largely capture the real distribution. So it is unlikely that a Nobel Prize would be awarded to this technique.
