A Best Exercise for One Mid-Aged Computer Programmer

One shouldn't ignore his grip strength. A study back in 2015
from McMaster U said it was an overall indicator of frailty.
Science aside, for me, it just feels good to be able to
crush something with my hands.

I learnt from Pavel that grip strength carries over to many 
areas. This point is often ignored. Moreover, I think the 
reverse might be true, too. It is not just the hands when 
closing a heavy gripper. I treat squeezing as a full-body
exercise and have been expoloring the ideas of tightening up
the abs and glutes and digging into the ground.

I follow Pavel's advice in my training, i.e., to
"grease-the-groove." The key ideas are low reps per set, no
train-to-failure, and plenty of recovery time between sets.
After arriving at the cube in the morning, I'd take out the
"No. 1 Captains of Crush" gripper and start to squeeze. I
could barely do one rep with either hand. So I'd do just
that and put it down. That's a set. After a while of coding
or some other form of writing, I'd take a break. It doesn't
have to be too formal; simply having to wait for new code to
build gives me a good excuse to do another set. By the end
of the day, I'd have done about a dozen sets.

I train throughout the day and this often reminds me of what
a great job I have. Long periods of isolation allow me to
sit on the floor to stretch and stand up to crush, almost
anytime I want to. Who said a programmer had to be sedantary?

Over the past two years, despite frequent slacking off, I
have progressed from the "Trainer" (100 lbs) to "No.  1"
(140 lbs) and have grown more interested. I don't think I'm
too off the wall. In Tom Wolfe's novel "A Man in Full", 
Conrad crushed a prison bully with his iron grip. Old age is
going to see me with strong hands. 

So far, at work, no one seemed impressed by my feat except
for L, the ultra-runner. He was instantly attracted to my
gripper and, after playing with the No. 1, was going to
train himself.
