從我科某醫生醫囑的聯想

我科一位醫生, 人非常好, 但說話喜歡用 F 字.
去年某日, 他在病房大樓外打手機, 大聲的 F 這 F 那, 不少路過的病人家屬聽到, 給告到上層去了.
也經常聽到他在電話裏給某些不講理的同級或上級同事用粗語.
前幾天科裏來了新病人, 護士給他打電話拿醫囑, 他說: do the F pre OR workup.
這位護士和他爛熟, 她在醫單上寫:
As per Dr. XXX, do the F pre OR workup.
她用手機拍下, 郵件給他, 說: 是這個醫囑嗎?
他馬上打回來, 說: 我的上帝, 你還真這樣寫哈........傳為笑話.

在圖書館等到了排了好幾個月的電子書: 笑星和脫口秀主持人 Trevor Noah 寫的 Born a Crime. 才看了幾章, 寫的非常風趣幽默.
抄下他寫的一段關於語言和文化溶合的問題 (家長很多年前也跟我說過同樣的話,那時我聽不進).
他說到有些黑人故意說黑人的口音突出自己的與眾不同 (他是白爸黑媽).

Language brings with it an identification and a culture or at least the perception of it.
A shared language says" we are the same", language barrier says "we are different".
Racism teaches us that we are different because of the color of our skin, if you are racist, if you meet someone who does not look like you, the fact that he/she does not speak like you reinforces your racist preconceptions: he/she is different, he/she is less intelligent.

他舉了個例, 我相信很多其他國家來的英語不好的人都有同感:

A brilliant Mexican scientist came to the States to lecture, but he speaks spoken English, so people in America say: I do not trust him. others ask: "why? he is a famous and brilliant scientist".
" yah, maybe Mexican scientist, but I do not trust him".

在不說母語的國家, 語言能力不過關, 不被重用, 怨氣重重的大有人在.
能出國的很多人都很能幹, 但在別人的土地上不能運用自如的用他們的語言交流, 別人怎麽用你?
更可怕的是閉關自守, 圈著自己的文化傳統拒絕與這裏的文化溶入.
在醫院做, 你才會發現有多少從其他國家來的中年人不會說英語, 有的隻能靠十來歲的小孩翻譯(老年人不會說情有可源).
可悲!
