After 25 years of teaching I can tell you first hand, he is 100% correct. Those running our education system (not the teachers by the way) are doing a horrible job. It is being run exactly the way they want it, the problem is the goals they have do not aline with what is best for the students or society.

I mean he is right. I am just month away from finishing high school. I loved learning new things since very young age. But then I started hating school, because you had to know this and this. So only things I was enjoying (languages and history), I learnt it myself from other sources much better.

I did think school was little more than a 13 year prison sentence. I did learn some but, I probably learned about 5 years of knowledge in 13 years. We home schooled our daughters and by 6th grade they were already testing beyond 12 grade.

When my daughter took my grandson out of school he went from being a first grader to a 4th grader year. School was holding him back. For some kids they're constantly waiting for the others to catch up. I can't believe he reads me books at Six years old. We can't even be sneaky and spell things Because he know how to spell everything.

Wht I can say, every school starts with these ideas until we don't care about the knowledge but grades only, then it starts to be worst place for the students and teachers.

Students are taught as though on an assembly line so that the end products are all the same. They’re easier to manage that way. I let my children choose their own direction and support them in their interest in order to build passions fir what they do.

How to address "nature deficit disorder," which in my opinion, is a very legitimate growing concern. Kids take to nature automatically, no problem. Usually the problem stems from the adults (job situation etc). Can schools find a way to work this into the learning/life-experience process?. Maybe Kimbal has ideas on that, since he's the green jeans. Maybe they could thinktank that. My idea is to just buy small farms or mountain-lake lodges to operate as "schools." Let them feed the chickens, paddle canoes, etc. along with some kind of academics.

A degree might be unnecessary or schooling might unnecessary ( yet social engagement or communication between youth are necessary via school or other form ) but for youth to storage a core amount of knowledge is necessary as it gives them wing for their future passion when they discover it- we call it a foundation. The matter is HOW to ‘ insert ‘ this core amount of knowledge with a fully engaged mind - suppose this is a task for educators and software designers, etc. college degree might not apply to one’s careers directly, but the fact that a person goes through a higher education process which indicates that a certain foundational knowledge is acquired … but a genies is an exception - some dropped out of school, some went through many subjects learning via school.

if we could make online university, but a public one, of course doing presential exams, it would be great, I could enroll to university if I wanted to, going to classe takes too much time, most students are able to understand the concepts, just need a teacher for explaining things we don't understand, of course, the salary would be the same, because you would have the option to go to online class or not and that is it.

I believe that school was made for workers, good grades ? Good get a stable “high” paying job. They’re hiring you cause you’re a good worker, worker not thinker. Depending on your job of course but other wise you’d be underpayed. If you want another career path and have a plan or know where to find the info(internet/networking/experience) then people will say” you don’t go to college you don’t become successful “ they kill your creativity.

Schools are great learning platforms. All these guys Gates, Larry, and Musk went to expensive Schools and learned a great deal and dropped out at a very later stage in College due to a mismatch of fields and changed fields but that doesn't mean they didn't learn anything from schools! Show me One Man in this era who never ever went to school and was a farmer and invented tech.

"..No need..." I agree, for perhaps the super brainiacs, which, in my opinion (and unfortunately) are rare!! However, for the "rank and file" young person, having college curricula helps a great deal, and the completion and proof of that, is a good thing.

That is not the case on this. Having a degree along with your personal skill is very good. That's excellent but you don't need to worry if you don't have any college degree. You can do whatever in your life to achieve success except for a degree. Degrees don't stop you from achieve what you want from life . That's the point

you can't 100% focus and learn if you have the stupid grade and point systems, shouldn't be any tests, or exams at all. No pressure in the first place, that is how people become more relaxed, happy, engaging, and creative.

I just finished getting a college degree and what a waste of time. I’ve never seen an area so concentrated with a population of fools who can’t think. I’m definitely homeschooling my kids. I’ve met two families where the kids were homeschooled and those kids were ahead of everyone else.

To learn something completely new, you need interest? The problem is that children interests are shallow (short term application and emotional based). Adult's responsibility is to teach fundamental problem solving skills (Eg read, write, critical and creative thinking: maybe gamification thinking), in a way that they see the short term reward. The thing is learning requires effort. The 'problem' is that there's multiple alternatives that offers 'greater' quick reward/dopamine like video games for example. Strategy, gamify the process of learning (Elon musk). Make the relevance of the tools become apparent (Eg decompose a product). Make them know why (purpose) they are learning that. They get cognitive dissonance if they do not know why. It seems relevant, I've told to remember or I'll be punished. Problem solving is far more engaging than teaching the tools. Understanding is enjoyable? Just thinking and making quotes. I know, it is not well written.
