ALT (Alternative Logical Topology)
"separate", "virtual" network as an overlay on the public internet using "tunnels" to propogate path information needed to forward ALT datagrams.

ALT Router
egde ALT routers learn EID-prefixes from its "client" ETRs aggregate the EID-prefixes advertising the summary prefixes to other ALT routers

MAP Server (MS)
edge ALT routers that provides a registration function for non-ALT-connected ETRs, originats EID-prefixes into the ALT on behalf of those ETRs and forwards Map-Requests to them

MAP Resolver (MR)
edge ALT router that accepts en encapsulated Map-Request from a non-ALT-connected ITR, decapsultes it and forwards it on to the ALT towards the ETR which owns the reqested EID-prefixes

Ingress Tunnel Router (ITR)
a router which sends LISP Map-Requests or encapsulates IP datagram with LISP headers

Egress Tunnel Router (ETR)
a router which sends LISP Map-Replies in response to LIDP Map-Requests and decapsulates LISP-encapsulated IP datagrams for delivery to end system

Routing Locator (RLOC)
a routable IP address for a LIDP tunnel router (ITR/ETR)

EID-to-RLOC Mapping
binding between EID-prefixes and the set of RLOCs that can be used to reach it

EID-prefix Reachability
EID-prefix is reachable if at least one of its RLOCs is reachable

Default Mapping
a default mapping is a mapping entry for EID-prefix 0.0.0.0/0 (0::/0). it maps to a locator-set used for all EIDs in the Internet, if these is a more specific EID-prefix in the mapping cache it overrides the default mapping entry. the default mapping can be learned by configuration or from a Map-Reply message

ALT-Default Route
EID-prefix value of 0.0.0.0/0 (0::/0) which may be learned from the ALT or statically configured on an edge ALT Router. The ALT-Default Route defines a forwarding path for a packet to be sent into the ALT on a router which does not have a full ALT forwarding database.

Map Request message
sent into the ALT to request an EID-to-RLOC mapping
