死有重於泰山,有輕於鴻毛,今天想說說輕於鴻毛,升鬥小民的死,也可帶給人震撼,不過是在電影裏。
There are many tragedies caused by the nature. However, the worst cases, the most heartbroken stunning ones, were almost always caused by human beings to ourselves. I have to believe that while there are angels everywhere, there must also be evils walking here and there. Otherwise, I can not explain why some people could do certain things. Taking human life randomly and stone-hearted totally for any human life lost were certainly two traits of the evil.
Two Oscar nominated/winning movies made me speechless after watching them. Fargo is an older movie made in 1996 and won 2 Oscar awards in 1997. Made out of $7MM budget and no action movie stars, it attracted viewers with its excellent casting, acting and the amazing director. There were not even one single good looking person in the movie but it was one of the best 1990s movies. No Country for Old Man is the recent one, winning Oscar in 2008. This time it had 25 MM budget and more star power- some very cool killer and police chef were casted. The movie is more pressing than Fargo, but the same feeling of speechless came back, reminding me of Fargo, when I finished the movie.
They are both about crimes, the totally heartless, senseless violence that led to death of totally unimportant people. Made by excellent artists, simple stories and even simpler conversations can make strong impact on viewers. It is really about power of death falling upon quite ordinary powerless people living otherwise unnoticed lives. Many movie makers fanaticize about violence. They romance with the blood and pain. They make heroes out of violent people. They entice the viewers to think that it is so beautiful to watch people kill or be killed. Also, the more beautiful one is, the more beautiful to watch him/her to die. If one's life is not important, his death is not important as well in these type of movies. These movies are not providing the truth of death and violence. I am, however, totally hooked, addicted, impressed by those so called action movies as a fan. It is a drug or a dream away from my boring life. Thank god that I am not totally drugged when I felt awed by those two great movies. Ordanary, unpretty, powerless people will just die like those who are powerful, beautiful, or important. Their deaths can be equally heavy and equally sadden. Or when I am still angry/sad over the news about senseless deaths happened, I know angels are still touching me.

Storyline of No country for old man
In rural Texas, welder and hunter Llewelyn Moss discovers the remains of several drug runners who have all killed each other in an exchange gone violently wrong. Rather than report the discovery to the police, Moss decides to simply take the two million dollars present for himself. This puts the psychopathic killer, Anton Chigurh, on his trail as he dispassionately murders nearly every rival, bystander and even employer in his pursuit of his quarry and the money. As Moss desperately attempts to keep one step ahead, the blood from this hunt begins to flow behind him with relentlessly growing intensity as Chigurh closes in. Meanwhile, the laconic Sherrif Ed Tom Bell blithely oversees the investigation even as he struggles to face the sheer enormity of the crimes he is attempting to thwart.
Storyline for Fargo
Jerry works in his father-in-law's car dealership and has gotten himself in financial problems. He tries various schemes to come up with money needed for a reason that is never really explained. It has to be assumed that his huge embezzlement of money from the dealership is about to be discovered by father-in-law. When all else falls through, plans he set in motion earlier for two men to kidnap his wife for ransom to be paid by her wealthy father (who doesn't seem to have the time of day for son-in-law). From the moment of the kidnapping, things go wrong and what was supposed to be a non-violent affair turns bloody with more blood added by the minute. Jerry is upset at the bloodshed, which turns loose a pregnant sheriff from Brainerd, MN who is tenacious in attempting to solve the three murders in her jurisdiction.
