年近50歲的聞瑞澤在這個京劇藝術衰落、被遺忘和忽視的時代，一直為自己熱愛的京劇事業執著堅持。與此同時，聞瑞澤的妻子——舞蹈演員的雪華的事業卻如日 中天。這導致了他們心理的極度不平衡，造成了兩人之間的距離越來越遠。聞瑞澤的壓抑和恐慌不僅來源與婚姻的危機、女兒的叛逆、工作的停滯、上有老下有小的 生存壓力，還有難言的疾病等等。身份不為人知的女兒在卷入一段充滿糾葛的感情抉擇後，親手揭開了真相。
聞瑞澤和母親兩代人共同掩蓋的“家庭秘密”，最終導致了他婚姻的破裂。老母親也在被雪華發現這隱瞞了二十年的秘密後舊病複發，撒手人寰。聞瑞澤用男人最大 的毅力堅持著自己的事業，用寬廣的胸襟包容著妻子的背叛，沉痛的壓抑著內心裏女兒不為人知的身世。隨著更年期的到來他麵臨著前所未有的生理變化、事業挑 戰、家庭分裂，他能否挺的過去？他們還能在一起嗎？
聞瑞澤的弟弟聞瑞含——一個被母親收養的、用自身的血液維持哥哥生命的人，一個靠著不斷地付出和努力已擁有成功的事業和幸福家庭的人，但是當兒子聞亮在母 親秀芬偏激的教育方法下拒絕參加高考而執意要去學做廚師；妻子秀芬又對他無中生有的外遇猜疑和歇斯底裏式的糾纏，再到兒子意外卷入一起殺人案件，直至最後 連妻妹秀傑也被卷入到這場家庭危機之中……的時候，他和妻子的關係激化到了難以調和的地步，雙方都陷入到束手無策、痛苦不堪的局麵當中。麵對叛逆的兒子、 更年期妻子神經質的糾纏，甚至被壓抑到與妻子的妹妹產生了一段荒唐的感情之後，他又是如何麵對這一切的？他們還能在一起嗎？
