By Lucy Miao It was a tragedy and the message is cold-blooded and devastating. It is difficult for me to see that a woman who follows her heart and passion for 18 years did not gain the fame and live happily ever after. Instead, she died on a world boxing competition. The cruelty of life shudders me. I always believe in following one's heart, investing everything for one’s passion; glory, fame, and eternal happiness will come upon you. However, this movie brings a different message that one may lose everything during the course of pursuing one's dream and passion. Life is fragile and God may ask one return to him anytime. I cried for Maggie, a brave, determined woman died for her passion. Maggie, you should stay perhaps there is a miracle. Here is the synopsis. Maggie Fitzgerald, a poor girl from a broken family, has a dream to become a professional boxer when she is 13. She asks Frankie, a boxer trainer and running a downlow gym, to be her trainer. However, he doesn't accept any girl. By practicing alone at his gym for more than one year and finally she moved Frankie and became his trainee. Maggie then shows up on a lot of competition and she won every round because of her talents, unshakable focus and a tremendous force of will. She becomes a professional fighter, competing from small clubs to international. At the last competition, she has chance to win the world champion however her rival knocked her out to death while she is not ready. She becomes vegetate and asks for a death. Following Maggie's wish, he Frankie takes the tube from Maggie and she dies. He vanished since. In a nutshell, dark, edgy, subtle and at times emotionally devastating, MILLION DOLLAR BABY is a great movie, top performance both from Hillary Swank, Clint Eastwood, and Morgan Freeman. It won the best picture of the year and Hillary Swank took an Oscar home for the best Actress for her role as Maggie Fitzgerald.
