住新澤西州的痛苦:No.1 地產稅(附:各州地產稅表)

新澤西州又出貪官了,幾個市長和政府官員一起被抓,讓新澤西州居民都不知道該說什麽好。

也有不貪的,但公開自己給自己長年薪的,比如上屆Edison市長,上台後就給自己加了兩萬多年薪,結果這次就沒選上。遺留下來的問題是,今後所有新上任的Edison市長都會按新的高薪上任。

中文學校校長還發email,為這位韓裔市長落選抱不平,真不知道想什麽呢。

住新澤西州最痛苦還是全美最高的地產稅問題。下麵的表格,為證。

如果住在學區差一點的地方還行。比如說6000平方尺的房子,地產稅為2萬多美元一年。這還說的過去,畢竟你住的寬敞。

但是如果你住在較好的學區,接近6000平方尺的房子地產稅可達到5萬美元一年。

為什麽新澤西州的地產稅如此之高?有人說,因為汽油稅很低等等。這是個太複雜的問題,包括公共產業免地產稅比例太高, 政府特別能花錢(42%政府用款來源於地產稅,遠遠高於平均其它州平均29%,其它州都有為每個孩子建立特別的fund,用於教育,而新州的 Court’s Abbott decisions 把多數錢都卷走用於很少數的貧困地區的學前班,造成地方政府沒錢給自己學校的局麵,所以隻能增加地產稅.這些所謂的Abbott Districts貧困區吸走了60%的資金,給20%的孩子。貧困區孩子每人幾乎可以得到$25,000。而其它地區隻有其一半都不到),等等。

也比較一下美國總統和政府高官所居住的馬裏蘭州,中等收入和NJ差不多,但交稅比例少了100%之上。到哪做京官都有好處。

Erica_NJ 回複 悄悄話 I completedly agree - New Jersey's property taxes is so rediculous. Our town is even worse: a house's of market value $400K needs to put $10K properties tax. Very very bad.

Rendo, what're your thoughts on the current governor? Deserve another term?
