I think that the title of your post seems having a typo in it. :) Let me put this way, annual Jamaican Underwear Run in Central park is not a marathon per se, not even close. As a matter of fact, the distance for this underwear run is merely 1.7 miles comparing with 26 miles and 385 yards that NYC marathon runners must endure and complete. Furthermore, unlike the real marathon runners, there is no timing gear or vigorous training required for a participant in small scale run; the only rule a runner may have to follow is to wear his or her choice of undie minus thong.
In my humble opinion, Jamaican Underwear Run is nothing more than a thrilling and eye-catching side show with an aim to gain some ogles, publicity and fanfare before Nautica NYC Triathlon. You maybe don’t know that similar type of sensational events take place in NYC daily. For example, last week there were 50 performers striped themselves completely (naked) in front NYSE building, pretending to do things that people normally do on Wall Street and then dubbing it as an art project.
In NYC, people have gotten used to those kind of stuffs which you may call it creativity or raunchiness, depending who you’d ask. :)
