Overnight Summer Camp

The TCS overnight camp has been a wonderful and engaging experience for my mind and body. The warm and friendly atmosphere, combined with great food and thrilling activities was sure to please any person. Today, I will be sharing my joyful moments from this camp.

Day 1

As I entered the doors of the Deep Creek Country Day School on July 18th, I was sure this camp was out of the ordinary. The nicely done architecture of the building surprised my eyes, with the bright windows and spacious rooms was purely breathtaking. I was greeted by my wonderful friends and the directors of the camp gathered us up for a team meeting. We were given the easy to follow camp rules and the group proceeded to our sporty activities. The choices that were given were a variety of basketball, soccer, and volleyball. I chose soccer, for I had many great experiences from soccer at my school.

Each sport was assigned by a friendly and caring volunteer parent coach. Each coach was helpful and wanted us to succeed at our sport we selected. We started off by learning the basics of our sports and we picked up on to the drills, and when we were practitioners of our sport, we had a fun tactical 3 on 3 soccer match.

After the soccer match with the score 1-1, we walked exhaustedly but proudly to the deck where the group had a refreshing drink of water. While we were vigorously playing sports, the food was set at the table. The food included hot dogs, succulent BBQ pork, pasta salad, salted fish fried rice, tea eggs, salad, fruit, and of course the cold noodles, served with a family secret sesame sauce. Once our bellies were full, it was free time, and we headed to the playground.

At the playground, we played a game of tag and rode little kids tricycles for fun. We went on the slides and we had fun with the swings. When it started to get dark, we headed back to the building and headed to the game room, turned off the lights, and we watched funny videos. We watched comedies, video after video. The room’s environment was instantly illuminated with the jaw breaking laughter of our voices. After an hour of joyful excitement, it was time to go to bed.

Our group set up our sleeping bags and snuggled up together, all cozy and tired. We talked for a while, but sleep overtook all of us one by one until we were all sleeping like a bear hibernating at his den in winter.

All snuggled up and cozy

Day 2

I awakened at the crack of dawn by the voices of my friends. The clear blue sky was the perfect day for a hand on dip in the pool. We rather impatiently waited for the bus to pick us up for swimming. We packed up our swim belongings for a day of golf and swim, and we walked anxiously to the bus. Once when we were all aboard, we settled in for the long ride.

All Aboard!

When our group caught sight of the pool, we cheered with excitement. We eagerly headed to the building, but we were stopped by a gentleman. He told us that if we play some golf, we will be rewarded with a dip in the pool. At first, the group groaned, but when we headed to the golf course, we were eager to learn.

Easier said than done!

The gentleman was an expert at golf, and happily taught us the art of golfing. We all started playing golf horribly, but at the end of the training course, we were gradually becoming practitioners. After each and every golf ball was hit, we were preceded to the swimming pool.

Swimming is my best sport, by a considerable amount. I swim year round and love swimming. It has been my favorite sport since I was three.

Our group immediately jumped into the swimming pool, so excited. We did a couple of races until the coach started to correct our problems. We started with learning how to kick correctly and proceeded to swimming drills. After we learned how to swim more effectively, we were selected into a relay.

My brother and I were team captains and we each selected our swimmers. The first race was neck to neck, but little Mitchell caught my team up and we ended up beating the other team. The second race was even closer; my brother and I were the anchors for each team. We raced, only nanoseconds apart until we both reached for the wall, and it ended up in a …TIE! After all the races the finals were set, noodle racing! This race was filled with cheering and rallies. Eventually it was just my brother and I again, racing neck to neck. But this time, my brother’s team won. WAY TO GO!!!

Practice makes perfect!

Our stomachs growled, extreme hunger, it was time for PIZZA! We hopped on the bus, starved, and the bus SLOWLY moved to Cici’s Pizza restaurant. The pizza at Cici’s never tasted as good as today, we devoured pizza until we were stuffed like a pig. After our tummies were stuffed we walked slowly to the bus and we plopped down on the seat. After the bus trip, we headed back to the Deep Creek building.

We quickly packed up and said our goodbyes to our wonderful friends. But then it hit me, the Summer Camp was already over!!

This Summer Camp got us all together for two fun filled days. It was wonderful spending time here and I really wish we have another camp next year. It has been a pleasure writing my thoughts about this camp and SEE YOU NEXT SCHOOL YEAR AT TIDE CHINESE SCHOOL!!!
