《七進瘋人院》這部電視劇集中了大批實力派演員。因在危情杜鵑中的精彩演出而迎來了演藝生涯第二春的肖榮生，在劇中擔任男主角。因在《青紅》中有上佳表現的演員姚安濂，再次出演反派。兩大實力派演員，在劇種一定會碰撞出不少火花。

在片場，劇組正在拍攝金玉山（肖榮生）在派出所遇到方雲（周潔）和麥錦天（姚安濓），發生衝突的一幕。對於金玉山這一角色，肖榮生坦言這是個很複雜的人物，即令人鄙視，又令人同情，在特定的年代下，他為了實現事業上的理想，不惜拋棄懷有身孕的愛人，另攀權貴。肖榮生對探班人員說：“演完這個角色，我肯定會遭到觀眾唾棄的，嗬嗬……”。
