華人和中華文化本來就是美國主流一員

今年本地華人新春晚會上,我給觀眾的致辭:

華人在美國的曆史和美國一樣長.從當年跨洲鐵路建設到今天的矽穀高科技產業,華人一直在給美國做出卓越的貢獻.慶祝中國新年,就是讓大家知道,中華文化本來就是美國不可分割的一部分,華人本來就是美國主流的一成員.我們,以及我們的後代,不需要拋棄自己的文化去所謂的"融入主流",因為中華文化本來就是美國的主流.

美國是一個偉大的國家,她的偉大來源於象我們這樣的移民帶來了祖先的燦爛文化,豐富了這個國家的成分和結構.美國是個多民族國家,作為美國的一員,我們有責任弘揚中華文化,讓美國大家庭更加豐富多彩,充滿活力.

Chinese Americans have been in this country since the beginning of US history. From transcontinental railroad construction in the 18th century to today’s high tech industry in the Silicon Valley, we have made significant contribution to this great nation. By promoting activities such as Chinese New Year Gala, we bring to public awareness that Chinese culture has always been an integral part of America society, so that our children, and our children’s children, can be proud of who they are, knowing fully well that they are a part of the America mainstream, not some marginal foreigners who need to fit in into some other culture.
