　　人類曆史上僅有的兩次世界大戰都發生在這個世紀，人類最具殺傷力的進攻性武器———原子彈也誕生在這個世紀。除此之外，這個世紀還是人類社會文明毀壞與損失最嚴重的世紀。
　　
　　《世紀戰爭》通過回首二十世紀所發生的主要戰爭，來研究戰爭、理解戰爭，從而引發人們對於戰爭與和平問題的進一步思索。
　　
　　和以往的戰爭紀錄片不同的是，《世紀戰爭》加入了中國的軍事學，和戰爭史研究者的最新研究成果，尤其對上世紀曆次戰爭的策源、發動、進程、結束等環節有許多獨家而精妙的論述，同時對如何製止戰爭提出諸多新穎觀點。該片還著重敘述了在一戰、二戰的歐洲戰場上，許多中國人從軍浴血、孤膽鬥敵和劫後餘生的曆史細節。角度獨特，且有讓人不能釋懷的曲折故事。
