Visit GC and surroundings

I will go to grand canyon from San Jose, north CA next week. Can someone recommend any places nearby to visit? I won't go Las Vegas and won't hiking, but would like to visit view at GC and surrounding. I have two kids, 15 and 4. How many days shall I plan, including driving? Where shall I stay? Since I don't have much time to plan, please help me and recommend. Thanks a million.
