Sept probably still rather hot - current temp is in 110 to 120.

Anyway, Scottsdale is much prettier than Phoenix which has not much to see.

Scottsdale is a very upscale town. Old town area is quite nice. Fashion Square - an upscale shopping mall is right in Old Town. There is also some artists plazas that are interesting, esp if you enjoy Southwest arts. From Scottsdale Blvd (the maindrag going North South), going North, you will see all the nice resorts lining up on both side. Suggest you pop in Hyatt Regency Scottsdale just for a look - very beautifully landscaped ground ... Phoenician Resort on an East West main drag is also worth a drop by. Both resorts have small, but very nice, exhibits of artifacts of local indians. The good things are, there are hardly any person around, and they are free.

Sedona is a couple hours north of Scottsdale - famous for its Red Rock State Park - The Hwy driving up to Sedona is pretty scenic going thru the valley of Oak Creek Canyon. When we drove thru in May, it was rather green. Not sure what the scenary might be in Sept. The town of Sedona itself is rather touristy.
