From the perspective of phonology, isn't that "l" a consonant, which does not form a syllable without a vowel, and therefore this silent "e" serves as a vowel to make this "l" a syllable--just like the "e" in the word "syllable? It could contain more than what I know. If so, can you please descipher it? Thanks!
