I went there , 25 years ago

There was no grand hotel except one on the end of the beach 25 years ago! I was told the beach is filled with hotel chains merely five years after my visit. When I was there, one could jut rent a hammock and sleep on the beach. I was too chicken to do that, rented a room at a family run hotel for a grand total of $12 a night. If you are interested in scoop diving, there is a great place near by, parque Xel-Há. If you want to explore the pyramids in the jungle, Cobá is a great place to visit.
