The thing that i'm having troubles to understand is

that what can make grown up adults so easily throw themselves on the floor in public? It's not a life or death, end of world situation.

My kid knew it since kindergarten without teaching.  He's never begged for anything, no matter how much he wanted. Things don't go your ways?  deal with it or suck it up.
