Your version is too simple

Your child get 1099, usually this is self-employment.  You'll have to get Turbotax self-employed to get the self-employment tax calculation.   In self-employment, the self-employment tax is equivalent to W-2 FICA tax. 

Your best course of action is to file a paper return in order to get self-employment tax/earned-income/IRA/
