A couple years ago I faced the same situation. I used the blue book value and some current ads to show my car was worth $3K, but the insurance insisted that it was $1.5K.
So I filed in the small claim court asking for $5K (the maximum). The day before the appearance, the insurance offered $3K. I accepted it and closed the case.
