H1B1

H1B1 is quite a bit different from H1b. My experience in H1b1 is quite limited. I would like to recommend a website for your reference. These a singaporean website in US. You may want to contact those guys who have successfully done H1b1 extension and travel at same time. See the link:

I have a specific question: When you applied for H1b1 in Sigapore in Jan 2008, did you apply visa using your current valid H1b1 approval notice? Or you apply H1B1 extension and visa together?
