surplus for a long time since transitioning from a manufacture based to a service oriented economy. In other words, our country has consistently experienced growing goods trade deficits alongside enduring services trade surpluses. In my opinion, the fact of the goods trade deficits has never been the main problem. The problem is whether or not the critical supply chains are resilienct. The lessons we should have learnt from Covid pandemic and Ukraine war are we have to make our critical supply chains resilient by reshoring and friendshoring and we have to have total constrol and productivity of our national security components.
