BTW, one Japanese bank gained its status by a big merger of 2 banks in 2004. I forgot exactly which one.

You can see how big the CC biz contributed to Citi's profit as it earned twice as much as HSBC did (No.3 in both Profitability and Market Cap).

So Citi is No.1 in 3 cat. out of 4 per Wiki, but HSBC is among the top 3.
