"Consciousness is an illusion ", 是人腦對既定信息的解讀，所以不存在自由意識。

而Mark Solms 等則認為Consciousness is much more fundamental than cognition. It exists and originates from the brain stem. 所以可能有腦幹的生物都有自我意識。
