Keep the channel open
A Letter to Agnes De Mille : Martha Graham
There is a vitality, a life force,
A quickening that is translated through you into action
And because there is only one of you in all time
That expression is unique.
If you block it,
it will never exist through any other medium
and it will be lost.
The world will not have it.
It is not your business to determine
how good it is
nor how valuable it is
nor how it compares to other expressions.
It is your business to keep it yours
clearly and directly
to keep the channel open.
You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work.
You have to keep open to and aware directly of the urges that motivate YOU.
Keep the channel open…
No artist is ever pleased…
There is no satisfaction whatever at any time
There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction
a blessed unrest
that keeps us marching
and makes (keeps)“us” MORE alive than the others.
一股靈氣和活力
因著你的表演而萌動
世上隻有一個你，
絕世無雙是你的演繹
假如你把它關閉
它便別無所依
它將遺失
世上再沒有你靈動的演繹
不要去鑒定它的質量
也不要考慮它的價值
更不要拿它去和別的演繹對比
- 那些你都不用在意
牢牢地將它守住，
明明白白地
讓演繹的渠道暢通
- 這才是你的天職
你甚至不必相信自己或者作品
你隻需擁抱那賦予你力量的衝動
請保持渠道暢通
藝術家從不滿意
任何作品
正是那神奇的
與生俱來的永不滿足
驅使我們前行
讓我們更加充滿活力
