The Mid-Autumn Song
MELlow falls the moon of autumn
SHINing through the mists of ages
NIGHTly weeps the pale Chang-e
LOCKED within her frozen palace
YEARly cross the faithful lovers,
O'ER the Magpie Bridge of heaven.
YEARS have faded, home is distant,
YET the ties are never broken.
BUT tonight, beneath the splendor,
GODS and mortals walk together!
LOOK beneath the humble thatch roof
SITS the drunken poet, Li Bai
VERSes fly and dance around him:
“LOOKing up, I see the moonlight
“BOWing down, I miss my homeland.”
JADE-White Rabbit, soft and nimble
POURS the wine to chase his sorrows.
LOOK above! Upon the bridge heights
STANDS the strong Com-man-der Pigsy.
HOLDing tight his iron weapon,
FAcing right toward the palace.
BLOCKing tight the path of meeting
BARring fair Chang-e from passing.
ON the beams, the sign is written:
“FAIR Chang-e desires her homeland.”
CAST away your heavy sorrows,
LOOK ahead into the future!
RAISE your cups beneath the star-light FARE well to the moon of this night
NEXT year shall its round be fuller
ALL the world be made complete!
