As of September 24, 2024, a new law in England and Wales will make it illegal to own, sell, manufacture, or transport certain types of knives and machetes, known as "zombie-style" knives. The ban is intended to address concerns about knife crime, which has increased in recent decades. 

 

 

The Home Office launched a national surrender and compensation scheme ahead of the law's implementation, which runs from August 26 to September 23, 2024. People who legally own these knives can hand them in to police stations without fear of prosecution and may be eligible for compensation. 

 

 

The law also includes proposals to ban large knives that appear to be designed to look menacing but have no practical purpose. It also considers giving the police additional powers to seize, retain, and destroy certain knives if they find them on private property and have reason to believe they may be used in a criminal act.
