The Salesman’s Purchase
A traveling salesman stops to take a rest on the side of a beautiful country road. Our man is quietly lying in the grass when a horse from the neighboring meadow comes over to tell him his life story.
"As I’m telling you, Sir, I am an excellent thoroughbred. I have participated in about twenty horse races. I have won more than 6 million euros; all my trophies are hanging in the barn."
The salesman realizes there is a lot to be gained from this horse. He goes to the nearby farm and offers the owner 100,000 euros to buy it.
"But no," says the farmer, "you don't want to buy this horse."
"But I absolutely do! Here, look—I’m writing you a check immediately."
The man hands the check to the farmer.
"Okay, deal struck, since you insist. The horse is yours."
The salesman is all perky about the good deal he made, but he asks the farmer:
"By the way, why were you saying earlier that I didn't want the horse?"
"Because," the farmer replies, "this horse is a big liar. He has never participated in a race, nor won a single race in his life."
