Why are we Chinese suffering

I cannot read the news about tsunami and see the pictures in detail. It is just horrible. I feel depressed to think why people are gone so quickly and miserably. It is heart broken.
It also reminds me of how horrible it was that over 300 thousand of Chinese was killed at one time in Nanjing by Japanese over 50 years ago. How horrible was it that a couple of hundred thousand Chinese were killed at Liao Shen Battle and another couple of hundred thousand were killed at Huai Hai Battle? How come does Chinese in Mainland believe that these are great battles, not evil behaviors which they killed each other as brother and sister? And how horrible and messy was the Tang Shan earthquake, at which over 300 thousand were killed? Luckily I survived from that horrible disaster as a little boy.
I am not trying to blame the mother of nature or trying to blame any one, including Japanese or Chinese for the past events. I don’t believe that it is helpful at all. It is useless to blame or hate someone for some bad events if we don’t learn from the past disasters. Can we prevent these disasters happening again, especially those by ourselves, not by the mother of nature? From this horrible tsunami, my dear fellow Chinese, should we reconsider the issue between Taiwan and Mainland China? Taiwanese and Mainlanders are brothers and sisters after all, aren’t we? At least our grandpas and grandmas were brothers and sisters, weren’t they? Why cannot we Chinese stop killing each other by any mean and any reason? It is horrible, it is wrong and it is evil to kill people, let alone killing your father’s son and daughter.
I am not a religious person, but cannot help wondering that some magic power is trying to punish our Chinese because of our evil thoughts and behaviors of killing our own each other. Otherwise, why are we Chinese suffering so much? More than any other nation?
