還記得這本書嗎？我想它應該是我們中很多人的老朋友，在學生生涯的某個階段我們應該都或多或少地背過它的點滴片斷。去年回國在整理家中藏書的時候，鬼使神差地把它的第四冊（最後最難的一本？）也裝進了行李，稀裏糊塗地背回了英國。

這兩天閑得沒書看，於是把它從書架中抽了出來。一讀之下倍覺親切不說，還有很多共鳴。或許是因為書中的小文章大多都是英國人寫的，在英國十年之後對這些多少現在看來有些舊體但非常雋永的文字能有更深的欣賞。摘一小段(Pieces of Mind)

讀完之後真是覺得齒頰留香，餘韻長存！隻可惜當年能力有限，這第四冊隻是在出國之前草草翻過。十年之後才重新拾起，有機會品味這遲到之意，覺得很是有點遺憾！另外遺憾的是文章生詞表中的詞仍然不是個個都認識，好生慚愧！隻好安慰自己，小報太陽報被人笑是３００單詞走天下，俺的水平應該至少是遠高於它的吧！

這本書的扉頁上有我手抄的半首詞 “秋風清，秋月明，落葉聚還散，寒鴉棲複驚。相思相見知何日，此時此夜難為情”。 已經記不清是誰寫的了，自己又是在怎樣的一種心態下把它抄下來的。 或許於今天這些不重要了，因為此情可待成追憶，隻是當時已惘然！
