羅馬書第七章和第八章把基督徒的"老我"和"新造的人"都說清楚了。

"老我"就是那取死的身體。取死就是遭死或必死的意思。保羅說肉體裏沒有良善，因為肉體順服罪的律。在肉體裏"我所願意的善，我反不作，我所不願意的惡，我倒去作"，結果就是"立誌為善由得我，隻是行出來由不得我"。 可見這是何等的痛苦，在罪的驅使下，做不願意去做的惡事。 然而神體貼我們肉體的軟弱，派遣他的兒子道成肉身，把眾人的罪懲罰在他兒子的身體上。因此，在耶穌基督裏的人，他的"老我"即肉身已與基督同釘十字架而死，同時他的罪在十字架上被懲罰在了耶穌身上。這就是為什麽保羅說"感謝神，靠著我們的主耶穌基督就能脫離了" 這取死的身體。

格林多後書說" 若有人在基督裏，他就是新造的人．舊事已過，都變成新的了。" 這是因為我們受了聖靈的洗，思維從此不再跟隨肉體而行，而是跟隨聖靈而行，所以聖靈的律在基督耶穌裏便使我們脫離了罪和死的律，成為了新造的人; 使律法的義成就在我們這不隨從肉體，隻隨從聖靈的人身上。靠著聖靈，我們就會時刻意識到主耶穌基督已經擔當了我們的罪，治死了我們身體的惡行，現在我們已經是義的奴仆了。基督的靈就是耶穌的話，就是福音真理。聖靈保惠師總會讓我們想起耶穌的話，看到神的愛。從此行事為人不再順從肉體，而是順從聖靈了。聖靈給於生命與平安!

舉個例子說明什麽是隨從肉體什麽是隨從聖靈。比如說你的愛人做了一件令你非常生氣的事，若你在這個時候隨從肉體，你就會覺得自己是對的，對方是錯的，你就會論斷他，罵他甚至打他。若你在這個時候隨從聖靈，你就會意識到在肉體裏大家都是罪人，都是軟弱的，都會犯錯，同時會想起耶穌所教導的不要論斷人，而是要赦免，免人的債，彼此相愛，這樣家裏的平安一下子就都來了。

羅7:15 因為我所作的、我自己不明白．我所願意的、我並不作．我所恨惡的、我倒去作。
For I don't know what I am doing. For I don't practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do.
羅7:16 若我所作的、是我所不願意的、我就應承律法是善的。
But if what I don't desire, that I do, I consent to the law that it is good.
羅7:17 既是這樣、就不是我作的、乃是住在我裏頭的罪作的。
So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.
羅7:18 我也知道、在我裏頭、就是我肉體之中、沒有良善．因為立誌為善由得我、隻是行出來由不得我。
For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don't find it doing that which is good.
羅7:19 故此、我所願意的善、我反不作．我所不願意的惡、我倒去作。
For the good which I desire, I don't do; but the evil which I don't desire, that I practice.
羅7:20 若我去作所不願意作的、就不是我作的、乃是住在我裏頭的罪作的。
But if what I don't desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.
羅7:21 我覺得有個律、就是我願意為善的時候、便有惡與我同在。
I find then the law, that, to me, while I desire to do good, evil is present.
羅7:22 因為按著我裏麵的意思。〔原文作人〕我是喜歡神的律．
For I delight in God's law after the inward man,
羅7:23 但我覺得肢體中另有個律、和我心中的律交戰、把我擄去叫我附從那肢體中犯罪的律。
but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.
羅7:24 我真是苦阿、誰能救我脫離這取死的身體呢。
What a wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out of the body of this death?
羅7:25 感謝神、靠著我們的主耶穌基督就能脫離了。這樣看來、我以內心順服神的律．我肉體卻順服罪的律了。
I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God's law, but with the flesh, the sin's law.
羅8:1 如今那些在基督耶穌裏的、就不定罪了。
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don't walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
羅8:2 因為賜生命聖靈的律、在基督耶穌裏釋放了我、使我脫離罪和死的律了。
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.
羅8:3 律法既因肉體軟弱、有所不能行的、神就差遣自己的兒子、成為罪身的形狀、作了贖罪祭、在肉體中定了罪案．
For what the law couldn't do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh;
羅8:4 使律法的義、成就在我們這不隨從肉體、隻隨從聖靈的人身上。
that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
羅8:5 因為隨從肉體的人、體貼肉體的事．隨從聖靈的人、體貼聖靈的事。
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
羅8:6 體貼肉體的就是死．體貼聖靈的乃是生命平安．
For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace;
羅8:7 原來體貼肉體的、就是與神為仇．因為不服神的律法、也是不能服。
because the mind of the flesh is hostile towards God; for it is not subject to God's law, neither indeed can it be.
羅8:8 而且屬肉體的人、不能得神的喜歡。
Those who are in the flesh can't please God.
羅8:9 如果神的靈住在你們心裏、你們就不屬肉體、乃屬聖靈了．人若沒有基督的靈、就不是屬基督的。
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if it is so that the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if any man doesn't have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.
羅8:10 基督若在你們心裏、身體就因罪而死、心靈卻因義而活．
If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of righteousness.
羅8:11 然而叫耶穌從死裏複活者的靈、若住在你們心裏、那叫基督耶穌從死裏複活的、也必借著住在你們心裏的聖靈、使你們必死的身體又活過來。
But if the Spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
羅8:12 弟兄們、這樣看來、我們並不是欠肉體的債、去順從肉體活著。
So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
羅8:13 你們若順從肉體活著必要死．若靠著聖靈治死身體的惡行必要活著。
For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
羅8:14 因為凡被神的靈引導的、都是 神的兒子。
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God.

 林後5:17 若有人在基督裏、他就是新造的人．舊事已過、都變成新的了。
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.

西2:11 你們在他裏麵、也受了不是人手所行的割禮、乃是基督使你們脫去肉體情欲的割禮．
in whom you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ;
