Taylor Swift took some time away from the stage and red carpet during the latter part of 2016 — with a few exceptions in between — but it didn’t stop the pop star from turning street-style moments into memorable fashion statements. The “I Don’t Want to Live Forever” singer is often spotted in sleek styles by luxury designers such as Prada, Giuseppe Zanotti, Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin. This year, Swift switched up her footwear go-tos five times with some unexpected choices, which kept us on our toes.

Swift made her way to the Tommy Hilfiger spring ’17 fashion show in September during New York Fashion Week to support friend Gigi Hadid, who was collaborating with the designer. While Hadid walked the runway, Swift drew much attention to herself as she sat front row, putting her red velvet Stuart Weitzman’s Allegs boots on display.

Swift had big shoes to fill at this year’s Met Gala. Actress Jennifer Lawrence took on the co-chair role in 2015, and this time around, it was Swift’s turn. For this year’s theme, “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” Swift made an entrance wearing custom Louis Vuitton from head to toe. The singer opted for gladiator sandals by the French fashion house paired with a silver cut-out minidress.

To some surprise, Swift traded in her feminine and girlish style for a rock-chic and edgy ensemble paired with her platinum blonde bob and a dark lip.

Swift continued to rock her edgy new look, sporting her platinum blonde hair and Vetements boots — which she wore on the cover of Vogue‘s May issue — for Gigi Hadid’s 21st birthday party in April.

The 6-inch platform boot brought out a new look from Swift — partially due to her Vogue cover shoot. She liked the Vetements boot style so much, she asked to keep the $1,655 pair from the shoot, according the magazine’s fashion director, Tonne Goodman.

For those looking to get their hands on Swift’s shoe looks, that usually meant you needed deep pockets. But in September, she stepped out in shoes that are surprisingly accessible. For a girls’ night with friend Lily Aldridge, Swift wore Louise et Cie Kellyn studded block-heel sandals that retail for $149.

This summer, Swift swapped out her heels for some sneaker styles. After being seen in Nike trainers and Saint Laurent kicks, Swift appeared wearing $695 white leather sneakers from Gucci. The fun shoes gave Swift a casual vibe while featuring Gucci’s signature stripes with an embroidered floral appliqué laid over them on one side, plus an embroidered bow on the heel.
