傳統的木工基本上以手工工具為主，需要掌握很多技術，耗費體力，一般是采取師傅帶徒弟的方式，要“出師”則要好多年的時間。現代木工則多以電動工具為主，特點是加工快，精準，缺點則是噪音和粉塵大，需要嚴格遵守安全規則，如果保護得當，也可以避免這些缺點。
說到兩類模式的花費，在西方這裏來看，手工工具也非常昂貴，一個木工刨子300-500美金是正常的價格，一台普通的電動工具也差不多這個價格了。
我當然以電動工具為主，輔以少量手工工具。
