On <<Finding Ultra>>

Reading ``Finding Ultra'' I was struck by the experiences I
share with Rich. We both were awakened to the poor health
and grim prospect of life at exactly the same point, age 40.
Like Rich, 7 years my senior, I embarked on researching and
seeking help from professionals after I was told
prediabetic. It took a while but I arrived at the same
whole-food plant-based diet as he did and lost a quarter of
my body weight over a year. He started training for ironman
and I started running. Ever the conservative, I gave myself
one year before racing. Rich's later competing experiences
will serve as a guide.

Parts of the book are spiritual, especially during Rich's
alcoholism treatment and later in endurance trainning. I can
identify with many points he and his wife made about life.

The best piece of training information for me is to try to
run in Z2. I need to do more research on that. But I think
this might be what I need at the moment--I just lowered my
mid-run pace by half a minute but didn't feel as good. I
need to build true endurance--running fast with low heart
rates.

Rich seems to have a good vocabulary and I learnt words from
this book. I also hope it's going to enrich my diet.
