            A Letter to Agnes De Mille : Martha Graham

There is a vitality,

a life force,

a quickening

that is translated through you into action,

and because there is only one of you in all time,

this expression is unique.

艾格尼斯·德米爾Agnes  De Mille是美國的舞蹈家和編舞家。生於紐約一個劇作世家。從小立誌表演。做一名演員是她童年的夢，卻因為不夠漂亮而放棄。之後迷上跳舞，因為父母的阻擾，直到大學畢業才正式學舞。這次她沒有因天資的不足而放棄。聽從自己的心聲，這次她成功了。

1947因舞蹈Brigadoon 獲托尼獎the Tony Award 最佳編舞獎。

於1973年入選美國劇院名人堂；

1976年獲亨德爾藝術成就獎；

1980年，1986年分別為“The Indomitable de Drama”，“ Desk Special ”獲艾美獎（Emmy Award）。

她還獲得國家藝術獎章和七所學院和大學的榮譽學位。
