CHIANG KAI-SHEK SENDS ULTIMATUM TO KWANGSI
Demands Surrender of Province

CANTON. Aug. 2.

General Chiang Kai-shek, who is leading the Central Government forces, said before his departure by air today for the scene of hostilities, accompanied by General Huang Mu-sung and General Chang Pak-wei, that he had sent an ultimatum to the rebel province of Kwangsi, where General Li has established an autonomy. In the ultimatum he threatened lo begin a punitive campaign unless Kwangsi surrendered by Wednesday.

Fighting has broken out between rebels and Government troops near Feng Chuen, and British and foreign gunboats are standing by at Wuchow, on the Sikiang River, to protect their nationals, among whom are missionaries.
