由於不同群體價值取向的分歧, 種族文化背景差異, 宗教信仰不同等種種原因, 各團體或組織都試圖製止與其信仰有分歧的事物. 青少年家長是質疑出版物最多的一個群體. 美國圖書館員協會列出以下受到質疑的圖書及其受質疑的原因. 在這裏不把這些書列為禁書是因為出版自由是受憲法保護的, 人人都有自由閱讀的權利, 以下絕大部分圖書都能在公共圖書館借到.
1.And Tango Makes Three” by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell, 同性戀, 反家庭傳統道德, 不適合於某些年齡組閱讀
2.“Gossip Girls” series by Cecily Von Ziegesar for 同性戀, 性描寫, 毒品, 不適合於某些年齡組閱讀,侮辱性的語言;
3.“Alice” series by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor 性描寫和侮辱性的語言;
4.“The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things” by Carolyn Mackler 性描寫, 反家庭傳統道德, 不適合於某些年齡組閱讀,侮辱性的語言;
5.“The Bluest Eye” by Toni Morrison性描寫, 不適合於某些年齡組閱讀,侮辱性的語言;
6.“Scary Stories” series by Alvin Schwartz 超自然力/磨鬼的描寫, 不適合於某些年齡組閱讀, 暴力, 冷血
7.“Athletic Shorts” by Chris Crutcher 同性戀和侮辱性的語言;
8.“The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky 同性戀, 性描寫, 侮辱性的語言, 不適合於某些年齡組閱讀
9.“Beloved” by Toni Morrison侮辱性的語言, 性描寫, 不適合於某些年齡組閱讀
10.“The Chocolate War” by Robert Cormier 侮辱性的語言, 性描寫, 不適合於某些年齡組閱讀, 暴力
